I need to make money - but I’m totally lost.
“Let’s say it out loud: you need to earn more money than you’re making right now. That’s not selfish. That’s survival.”
“I know I need to figure this out.”
“Sometimes I check my bank account five times a day. Sometimes I avoid it for weeks.”
“I keep thinking there’s something obvious I’m missing.”
“People say ‘just start freelancing’—but doing what?”
“I’m smart. I’m capable. So why does this feel impossible?”
“How is everyone else moving forward while I feel like I’m drowning in place?”
Maybe you’ve been applying for jobs and hearing nothing.
Maybe you’re working nonstop and still falling short.
Or maybe you’ve been telling yourself “next month” for the past six months.
Whatever version you’re living, the pressure is real—and it’s rising.
A real-world problem, worked through using the Straight Line Method.
If you’re feeling stuck, you’re not alone—and there’s a way forward.
👉 See how the method works
Accept.
Let’s say it out loud: you need to earn more money than you’re making right now. That’s not selfish. That’s survival.
There’s no fundamental flaw in you—but it’s also true that lots of people say they need to make money and still do nothing. They freeze. They wait for clarity. They get stuck in shame or fear.
You’re here to do something different: admit the truth,
then act on it.
Choose.
You don’t need a dream job—you need a stepping stone. If you're unemployed or underpaid, the harsh truth is that it's hardest to make money when you have none coming in. Yes, the job market is bleak. Yes, it’s unfair. But you have to start somewhere. Your goal right now isn’t status—it’s stability.
Choose one outcome: get paid. The bigger picture can come later.
Identify.
So what’s keeping you stuck?
- Are you underpaid, unemployed, or just treading water?
- Are rising costs eating up your paycheck?
- Are you hesitating because you’re scared to fail or don’t know where to start?
Now, get specific.
What’s pushing you to act right now? Rent? Bills? Burnout? Freedom?
Want to go a step further? Write down a number:
- How much per month would change your reality?
- How much per week would give you breathing room?
This is your pressure. This is your fuel.
Prepare.
Now shift gears: what do you have to offer—right now?
Grab a piece of paper and make three columns:
- 🧠 What I know – Skills, tools, systems, lived experience, processes you understand
- 💬 What people ask me for – The things people count on you for: advice, fixes, insights, emotional labor
- ❤️ What I like – Topics or tasks that hold your attention and don’t drain you
This isn’t about finding your forever path. It’s about getting brutally honest about your starting point.
Set a timer for 10 minutes and list everything. Don’t judge, just dump.
Somewhere in the overlap is your first offer. It might be small. It might be messy. But it can get you paid—and that is the goal.
Execute.
Take a breath.
Really—pause for a second. This is heavy. You’ve looked at your reality with clear eyes, and that can feel like a lot. Let yourself feel it.
But don’t let it stop you.
Re-read that first line if you have to: You need this money.
You said it. You meant it. So now let’s move.
Your one action today:
DM or message one person who makes money on their own—freelancer, seller, creator, consultant, whatever—and ask them this:
“What did your first paid gig or offer look like?”
That’s it.
You’re not asking for a job—you’re gathering proof that it’s possible.
Real person. Real example. Real momentum.
If they respond, ask follow-ups.
If they don’t, message someone else.
This step builds belief through evidence—and belief is fuel.
You don’t need the whole staircase.
Just the next step.
This is it.
